Thermography in South Elgin
Your body often shows signs of stress and imbalance long before symptoms begin. Thermography gives the client, and Harmony Chiropractic, a way to observe those early changes by tracking heat patterns across the body, helping identify inflammation, vascular changes, and areas of dysfunction before they progress into more serious concerns.
A Preventive Look at How Your Body Is Functioning
Thermography uses Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging (DITI) to measure the heat naturally emitted from your skin. A specialized infrared camera translates those heat patterns into color images, allowing the thermographer to see where the body is running cool, warm, or hot. Warm or hot areas may indicate inflammation, infection, or increased physiological activity. Cooler areas can point to reduced circulation or decreased function.
Unlike conventional imaging that focuses on structure, thermography evaluates physiology. It looks at how the body is functioning in real time, often revealing changes before symptoms appear or before a condition becomes diagnosable through other forms of imaging.
Because the scan simply measures the heat already leaving the body, nothing is entering the body and nothing is being emitted into it. There is no radiation, compression, or physical contact involved.
What Thermography May Reveal
Thermography can help identify abnormal physiological patterns throughout the body, including:
- Gum and dental inflammation
- Spinal and joint inflammation
- Nerve irritation and soft tissue stress
- Vascular and circulatory irregularities
- Areas of reduced function or poor circulation
- Systemic inflammation patterns
What to Expect During Your Scan
Preparation is an important part of getting accurate results. Before your appointment, you will receive a confirmation email with pre-scan instructions, along with a four-page client history form that must be printed, filled out, and brought with you to the appointment. Please look for “CLICK TO PRINT” as you scroll down from the orange box within the email.
For 24 hours before the scan, avoid massage, chiropractic adjustments, strenuous exercise, and anything that may artificially heat or cool the body. Coffee should also be avoided two hours prior to your appointment. If you have recently undergone surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, have recently given birth or are currently nursing, scans are typically scheduled at least three months afterward so the body has time to return to its normal baseline state.
Appointments generally take between 30 and 60 minutes. You will disrobe only for the area being scanned, and portions of the appointment will involve standing while the thermographer captures images through the infrared camera. The process is completely contactless and comfortable.
After the scan, a detailed report is generated and can be reviewed alongside your chiropractor to provide additional insight into inflammation patterns and overall physiological activity.

Why Chiropractors Use Thermography
Chiropractic care often focuses on identifying underlying causes of dysfunction instead of only addressing symptoms after they appear. Thermography supports that preventive approach by helping chiropractors observe patterns of inflammation and stress throughout the body before more significant issues develop.
The reports may help your chiropractor better understand what is happening within the spine, joints, muscles, and nervous system without the need for radiation-based imaging. This additional layer of information can help guide a more personalized and informed care plan.
Thermography is also valuable over time. A single scan provides a snapshot, while repeat scans help track changes in the body’s physiology. Watching an area become warmer, cooler, or more balanced over time can offer meaningful insight into how the body is responding to stress, lifestyle changes, or ongoing care.
Who Can Benefit From Thermography?
Thermography may be appropriate for most adults and is commonly recommended for patients ages 25 and older. Younger patients may also benefit, particularly because earlier monitoring can help identify concerning patterns sooner, though those under 25 typically require a doctor’s referral.
Because there is no radiation, compression, pain, or physical contact involved, thermography can be a safe option for a wide range of individuals looking for a more proactive understanding of their health.
Meet Your Thermographer
Thermography services at Harmony Chiropractic are led by Cindy Shroba of Thermography Today, a certified clinical thermographer and health coach with a longstanding passion for preventive and holistic wellness. From 2015 through 2025, she organized holistic health summits that connected communities with integrative practitioners and wellness education designed to help people take a more active role in their health.
After discovering thermography through another practitioner, Cindy completed her certification training, participated in 25 supervised scans, and spent five years working collaboratively in the field before launching her independent practice in 2025.
Her philosophy is simple: the earlier the body’s warning signs are identified, the greater the opportunity to make meaningful changes before health concerns progress further.
